Biographical / Historical

The Douglas County Clerk and Recorder Office created the five books in the Douglas County Clerk and Recorder Record Books Collection. The Douglas County Clerk and Recorder's Office provided notes from district court cases in Douglas County between 1872 and 1877 to create the Colorado District Court for Douglas County Grand Docket book, recorded the last wills and testaments of Douglas County residents 1867 and 1890 to create the Douglas County Last Wills and Testaments book, maintained the probate judge records from 1870 to 1878 when T. W. Martin was Douglas County Probate Judge to create the Douglas County Probate Judge Records book, and gathered the information for the 1882 tax list with the names of taxpayers living in the county for the Douglas County Tax List book. The final book, the Colorado State Auditor Ledger for Douglas County, recorded tax payments to the state between1873 and 1886 for the following funds: agricultural college, capitol building, insane/pauper, military poll tax, mining school, mute and blind, revenue, stock inspection, School of Mines, and University of Colorado. A letter inside of the book dated 1888 suggests Douglas County Treasurer G.A. Triplett and Douglas County Clerk and Recorder Harry Jones may have contributed to the financial accounting.
