Parker Area Historical Society newsletter collection
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of monthly newsletters issued by and for the Parker Area Historical Society (PAHS) between 1987 and 2016. The format and size of newsletter varied over the years but usually contained 1-4 pages of text printed on plain white paper, folded, stapled, and mailed via the U.S. Postal Service. Later volumes were issued digitally and exist here as print-outs from the PAHS website. Contents include upcoming meeting dates, event announcements, election results and other membership business, with occasional brief items of historical interest.
The first version of the PAHS newsletter was titled the Parker Area Historical Oracle, but that name only appeared on the first two issues: April and May of 1987 (Volume 1, Numbers 1-2). The "Newsletter" title appears on the next issue present in this collection, which is unnumbered, dated September 1987. Monthly issues have printed edition statements beginning March 1988. At first, each new volume year started in the autumn, but inconsistent numbering caused it to shift from September (1987) to October (1989) to November (1992) and back to October (1998), until 2004. That year the Newsletter re-started Volume XVI with January counted as the first issue, and they continued that pattern for the following volume years.
It appears that the Newsletter was issued, on average, eleven times per year instead of twelve, but the inconsistencies in numbering and dating make it difficult to determine exactly how many editions are missing. This collection does present a nearly complete run of PAHS newsletters for the years between 1987 and 2014. Identified gaps in coverage are noted at the folder level.
