Historical Note

The Douglas County Historical Society formed in 1969 and was the main historical institution in Douglas County, Colorado, during its existence. The Society helped with the publication of the book Our Heritage: the People of Douglas County, and contributed several articles in the newspapers found in the collection. When the Society disbanded in 1992, several of them continued to participate in the county’s historical community through other organizations. The Society’s paper based collections were donated to the Douglas County Libraries and provided the core of the local history collections, which are now under the department named Archives and Local History.
